10 Great Marketing Lessons
from the Green Room

If, as Shakespeare wrote, all of life is a stage and we the actors, then we all have a lot to learn from theater. Recently, when my son played the role of Jack in his high school musical Into the Woods, I had the opportunity to witness some great business lessons in action.

As the back-up parent one night in the Green Room, I had to be ready with duct tape for a ripped costume, bobby pins for a fallen hairdo—whatever. Thankfully that kind of emergency never materialized. But I sat in amazement the whole evening.

Alive there in the Green Room—as well as on the stage—were principles that breed success not just in our personal lives but in our businesses, as well. I couldn’t sleep that night until I wrote them down. Now I’m happy to share them with you.

1. Never give up. One girl cried after the opening night performance, feeling she’d really flubbed her very challenging role as the witch and especially her singing. The next show, she came back utterly determined to succeed and kept up a laser-like intensity all the way through the evening. As fellow students congratulated her on one number or another, she’d say, “Thanks, but I’m not done yet,” and sharpen her focus. She nailed it that night! Imagine taking that intensity, that gritty determination to succeed, into your efforts to grow your business!

2. Gather a good support team about you. A show doesn’t go on without a good support team. The student stage crew for Into the Woods was so good that when one of the actors missed her cue as the booming off-stage voice of the giantess, the stage manager bellowed the lines herself. The Biggest Marketing Mistakes Made by Therapists and Coaches

I had the great pleasure last week of interviewing Tricia Cardner, a coach and therapist who runs Therapist Business School. Tricia has some excellent—and occasionally provocative—suggestions that I think you'll really want to hear.

Click right here to listen to this 16-minute interview. It's short, but meaty!

If you're curious to know more, check out Tricia's website at: www.TherapistBusinessSchool.com.

Listen Up!

More and more people today are choosing to "listen" to books while working out, doing yardwork, even washing dishes. Sales of MP3 players, such as iPods, are skyrocketing with this trend; they're even being put in the newest cars!

Look for a special announcement from us the first week of May that will enable you to get in on this hot trend and offer downloadable audiobooks to your clients and visitors directly from your own website—at an unbeatable commission!

Breakthrough to Success Weekend ($1,790 Admission Waived)
I’m preparing to attend a three-day Chris Howard seminar in May, and I’d love to extend to you and a guest an invitation to join me.

Chris has been a master teacher of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) for years, but he's done most of his work in Australia and New Zealand. Last December, I heard Chris speak and was VERY impressed. Since then, I’ve heard only good things about him from colleagues who’ve attended his Breakthrough to Success training.

Here’s how one woman described it: “As a coach, I'm pretty skeptical of all these motivational speakers and self-help gurus that are popping up everywhere. Most of them are selling promises and dreams without content. Few have any training to speak of. Chris Howard is different.... His seminar is so powerful and positive that I've taken Breakthrough to Success three times!”

Another person wrote this: "What you might not be aware of is that the entire country is waking up to this amazing man and his extraordinary teachings."

True, I haven't gone myself, so I can't yet officially recommend it. But since the price is so right (as in $0), I figured I would share the opportunity to experience it for yourself. The workshop actually costs $1,790 for two, but you and your guest can get in for fr.ee if you register here. Chris is offering only a few trainings this year around the United States, so check it out!

Want More Ease and Abundance Around Your Finances?
A year ago this month, I attended an eye-opening three-day Millionaire Mind seminar that looks at patterns and beliefs around money—and how to shift them to bring more ease and financial fulfillment to our lives.

Since then things have really begun to shift for me and many others I know who took this training. My income rose 40% in just six months. I was able to fund a few cherished dreams. I got cash flow under control and have saved more money than in years. I’m continuing to shift my financial “blueprint" and to learn a ton!

If you’re at all curious about how to open up to greater freedom around money—or learning what the heck a financial blueprint is and how you can change yours—there are free three-hour evening workshops in several cities around the U.S. and Canada. Click here to find out more.

You can also attend the same three-day intensive that I did for only $97, but you’ll need a reference number that I can give you. For three days FULL of fantastic learning and great fun, this is an amazing rate. If you’re interested, email me, and I’ll send you the reference number and a link for the three-day seminar.

Pay Attention and Improvise

In the small, Northern California town where I live, there’s a wonderful record store on Main Street that’s just a few doors down from the traffic light. Consequently, there’s always a line of cars stopped in front of his shop when the light is red.

Recently, while stopped at the light, a woman in a car hollered out half-jokingly to Jonathan, the owner, to quick! get her a certain CD. Not missing a beat, Jonathan grabbed the CD, ran out the door and exchanged it for the $20 bill she handed him—all before the light turned green!

Bing! Bing! Bing! Bing!

The idea came in an instant: drive-thru music! And yes, of course he’s marketing that new service now.

Moral of the story: 1) Pay attention. We never know exactly where that next fantastic idea for a new workshop or product will come from. Brainstorming sessions with friends or a mastermind group are natural generators of brilliant ideas. But stay awake to the ideas that come out of left field or fall into your lap, like Jonathan’s drive-thru music. 2) Improvise. Also known as TAKE ACTION! As one of my favorite sayings goes: Ready, fire, aim. Jonathan acted without stopping to ponder the pros and cons, the processes that would have to be developed, etc. Of course I'm not dissing the value of planning, but a little spontaneity can go a long way to juicing up your business.
